Short Fiction Stories - Ronald Rock

Ronald Rock sat silently on the edge of Jeff's desk patiently waiting for him to wake up. It was almost noon and he was still fast asleep. But what more could you expect from a 15 year old boy who was starting to become more interested in girls then playing with Ronald anymore. It had been almost three months since the last time they had played together but every morning Ronald would sit on the edge of that desk and wait for his very best friend to wake up.

Jeff stirred under the covers and yawned as he began to wake. He sat up, slouching against the head board of his queen size bed and squinted at the midday light wishing it would go away and let him sleep some more. Ronald's emotions heightened as he readied himself for an exciting day of adventure with Jeff. He just knew that this would be the day that Jeff was going to want to play. He just knew it. Ronald tried to straighten up tall so that Jeff would be able to see him but he was restricted, not able to move anywhere.

Jeff slid his feet off the bed and slipped on his fluffy slippers that sat neatly at the side of his bed. He rose and stretched as tall and as wide as he could all the while yawning in the fresh cool midday air. Ronald's anticipation grew as Jeff shuffled sleepily towards his desk still groggy from being awoken so early by the midday sun. Ronald greeted Jeff with a friendly good morning but no sound escaped his mouth. He tried again, but still nothing. What was wrong with him? He became frightened and desperately tried to yell out as Jeff walked passed him to his bedroom door. Still nothing. Ronald struggled to turn and jump off the desk and run after Jeff as he shuffled down the hall but to no avail. Defeated, Ronald's heart sank to the floor and sadness overtook him. He knew that today, he would not get to play with Jeff.

Ronald Rock, Jeff's pet rock, forgotten and gathering dust sat there as the sun rose and fell each day going through the same routine day in and day out. Always hoping for his chance to play but knowing in his heart of hearts that that day may never come.
